John William Locklin, 81, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at his home in Nortonville.
John was born Jan.21, 1931 on the family farm near Nortonville, the son of William and Irene (Stockwell) Locklin. He graduated from Nortonville High School in 1949 and farmed all his life. Growing up, John baled hay for many area farmers. He also hauled livestock for Fred Schuler, hauled grain to the area elevators, drove a school bus for JCN school district, and even had an egg route for several years in which the family delivered eggs in Atchison and Leavenworth counties including Maur Hill and Mount Academy in Atchison and St. Mary's College in Leavenworth.
John married Ruth Anna Wehking on Sept. 7, 1952 in Nortonville. Together they loved to travel, camp, and go boating. John always drove the boat since he himself didn't know how to swim, but he made sure everyone learned to swim and water ski. John also enjoyed going to tractor pulls and attending his grandchildren's school activities. John served several years as a volunteer fireman for Nortonville Rural Fire District 12 and also on Jefferson County North School Board. John was always willing to help his friends farm if they needed him.
Survivors include two daughters; Carolyn (Randy) Kane, Atchison, and Peggy Locklin, Lawrence, two sons, Allen (Denise) Locklin, and Keith (Dawn) Locklin both of Nortonville; three sisters, June Ellerman, Edith Page, and Pearl (Don) Cowley, all of Nortonville; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren (soon to be ten in April); close family friends, Harold and Connie Beam.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann, on May 30, 1997. His parents and two sisters, Catherine Ellerman and Eva Schnelle, also preceded John in death.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 11, at O'Trimble Funeral Home in Nortonville, with Rev. Bob Carter, officiating. Burial will follow in Nortonville Cemetery.
