He received his Doctor of Medicine Degree at the New Orleans School of Medicine (now Tulane) in 1862. After the Civil War he married Abbie Billiu in Lafourche Parish 18 Feb 1867. They were the parents of Sidney Billiu, Ella May, Lila May, Edward and Carrie McNair Cross.
