Calvin W. Newcomer, 85, of 252 Pin Oak Drive, Apt. 2-B, was dead on arrival at 9:42 a.m. Sunday in St. Joseph Hospital. He was taken to the hospital by city ambulance after suffering what appeared to be a heart attack. He was born on Sept. 1, 1893, in Madison Twp. and he had lived here all his life. On April 27, 1921, in Mishawaka, he married Enda Brenneman. She survives with five daughters, Mrs. Clyde (Waneta) Carnes of Mishawaka, Mrs. Harold (Mary) Garman of Kalamazoo, Mrs. Henry (Doris) Gorny of Indianapolis, Mrs. James (Evelyn) Ireland of Lockhaven, Pa., and Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Peffers of Chesteton; three sons, Arthur of Mishawaka, Robert of Granger and James of Indianapolis; 25 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Earl Robinson, Mrs. Lloyd Brenneman and Mrs. Harvey Parcel, all of Mishawaka, Mrs. Albert Bendit of South Bend and Miss Florence Newcomer of Palmetto, Fal., and two brothers, Raymond and Clayton of Mishawaka.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Everett Ballard Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Phillips B. Smith, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church. Newcomer retired in 1958 from the American Railway Express Co. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Mishawaka Garden Club.
