Virginia Osmun was born on the 11th of January 1919, in Brooklyn, NY. Her parents were Ethel Spangler McGonnigal from Nashville, TN, and William Riley Mathews from Cuthbert, GA.
The early years of her childhood were spent in Cleveland, OH. and then in 1927, the family moved to Los Angeles, CA. It was there that she graduated from Los Angeles High School. Immediately upon her graduation, the family moved to Houston, TX. in 1936.
Virginia graduated from the former Houston Business College in Houston. Instead of moving back to LA, she married Dean Warren Osmun of Huntington Beach, CA. They had a 55 year marriage which produced 3 wonderful children - Thomas William Osmun, Judith Ann Siracusa, and Elaine Osmun.
The family weekend activities were ranching and boating - during which time they belonged to the Houston Yacht Club, Lakewood Yacht Club & the former Bob Smith Yacht Club in Galveston.
Virginia was a charter member of the Houston Junior Forum. During which time she served two non consecutive terms as President of the sustaining members of the HJF.
In 1983, her Galveston East End Historical Cottage was shown on the Annual Galveston Historical Home Tour. Shortly thereafter, Virginia was asked to serve on the Galveston Historical Foundation Board.
Virginia and Dean enjoyed many world travels for both business and pleasure. Dean passed away in August 1993.
She enjoyed being in a Bridge Club for over 60 years.
Virginia and Dean were also original members of the Houston Racquet Club.
Survivors include, a son, Thomas William Osmun and wife, Doree of Rockport, TX; and two daughters, Judith Ann Siracusa of Fredericksburg, TX, and Elaine Osmun of Red Lodge, MT. Two granddaughters, Melissa Kearney and husband Brad of Sanger, TX, and Carrie Pearson and husband John of Argyle, TX; and one grandson, Dean Siracusa and wife Shelley of Austin, TX. She also has 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Ethel Cate, of Newport Beach, CA.
The family would like to thank her personal caregivers, Yvette, Lovie, and Leak as well as Lillie.
Memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Saturday, the 12th of January, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where the Rev. George Aurich, Pastor of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, is to officiate.
Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in Virginia's name may be directed to the charity of one's choice.
