She was called Aunt "Carrie", her middle name, by her nieces and nephews. Her sisters Margaret Belle and Mary Amanda were also referred to by their middle names within the family.
After graduating from school, she married Louis Bowers and they had one child. As had several children in the Lloyd Shuman family who had business ties there, she moved to Detroit, Michigan, USA, where Louis was an engineer in the auto industry, and where they owned an apartment building. Carrie also worked as an accountant for the National Lumber Company in Detroit. She did not remarry after Louis' death in 1933. Later in her life, she retired to St. Petersburg, Florida, where she passed away at the age of 99.
