George moved from Bloomsburg to Johnstown in 1911, where he began his career with Penn Traffic, from which he retired as a Manager-Buyer in 1961. He was very active and affiliated with a number of organizations, including the Elks, Chamber of Commerce, and the Masons. His Masonic affiliations included: Johnstown Lodge AF&AM #538 (life member), Cambria County Council 32, Royal and Select Masons; Oriental Commandery 61, Knights Templar; Allegheny Mountain Forest 127, Tall Cedars of Lebanon; Jaffa Shrine, Altoona; and Portage Royal Arch Chapter 195.
During his lifetime, he also served on the Lee Hospital Board of Incorporators and was chairman of the Home Service Dept. of the local Red Cross.
