Frederick Fred James Gillespie was born 17 October 1895, Chicago, to James Somerville Gillespie and Anna Weigel Gillespie. Began his work in the construction business with his father, James, James S. Gillespie Construction Co., on Luella Ave. Chicago. Later, Fred owned and operated his own company, Gillespie Construction, on Merrill Ave. He met and married Elizabeth Bessie Murray Clark of Scotland and Chicago, Sept. 20, 1919. Fred & Bessie had three children, James Francis, Betty M. and Clark F.. They lived on Merrill Ave. Chicago,and later made their home in Flossmoor, IL, for many years. Fred and Bessie retired to Palm Beach, FL, in 1966.Fred Gillespie died 31 December, 1971, Atlantis, Florida, at the age of 76.Services were held in Homewood, Cook, IL. Burial in Cedar Park. Fred & Bessie had 10 grand children. Fred was survived by wife, Bessie, sons James F., Clark F., and daughter Betty Gillespie Ingwersen.
