Mr. Abernathy died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Gateway Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Born and lived his whole life in White County, Mr. Abernathy was the son of the late Church and Georgia Adams Abernathy. He was very dedicated to the people of White County throughout his entire life. He served as a White County Commissioner, dedicated 25 years to the White County Road Department and served in the C.C.C. and U.S. Forestry Service. Mr. Abernathy was a heavy- equipment operator and a member of Mount View Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Bell Ricketts Abernathy.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Gale and Carol Abernathy, Phil and Peggy Abernathy, all of Cleveland sister, Jessie Brock, Robertstown grandchildren, Kim Barrett, Sherry Craven, Brad Abernathy and Mike Rogers, all of Cleveland, Dana Kinnunen, Cornelia great-grandchildren, Christopher Barrett, Joshua Barrett, Benjamin Barrett, Andrew Craven, Abigail Craven, Bryson Abernathy, Crawford Abernathy, Kelsey Bently, Carson Bently, Dustin Rogers, Bethann Rogers, Kelby Craven and Kylee Craven, all of Cleveland and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, special friends and neighbors.
