Called as the first pastor of Grassy Creek Baptist in August of 1870.

"Brother GW Foster departed this life November 1879 In the early part of his ministry over one thousand two hundred converts were baptized by him In the latter years of his life he practiced law giving only a portion of his time to the ministry He died leaving his family in a destitute condition " - History of Salt River Association, Missouri

Louisiana Press Journal 28 Nov. 1879 (Friday) weekly,
"Death of Judge Foster.--Hon. G.W. Foster, well known in city and county, died at his residence in this city last Saturday from inflammation of the bowels, Deceased was in his 68d year. He had occupied a number of positions of honor, and was also an elder in the Baptist church. He was buried on Sunday."

"Nancy "Nannie" Ann KEITH Foster Tilton first married, first husband, George W. FOSTER 19 Jan. 1875. George W. FOSTER, judge, lawyer, Baptist elder married Nancy at Grassy Creek Church, where FOSTER preached. Grassy Creek Baptist Church is located out on the Frankford Rd., north of Louisiana, Pike, MO. south of Frankford, Pike, MO. Nancy went to church there where she met FOSTER and fell in love with him. FOSTER's previous wife died a few years before. FOSTER died 22 Nov. 1879 from a "stomach ailment" "inflammation of the bowels". FOSTER was shot, according to family lore. His body was found next to his horse outside of Elsberry, Pike, MO. at night, His bag was gone that held his court papers--robbery?" by Chris Tilton
