Dr. Nolen Wayne Fulton, Jr., 82, a retired surgeon, died November 19, 2006 at Jeff Anderson Hospital in Meridian. Visitation is today, November 22, 2006, 10-11 a.m. at Rocky Hill United Methodist Church in Louisville. Funeral services are 11 a.m. today at the church in Louisville with burial in the Rocky Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. Nowell Funeral Home in Louisville is handling the arrangements.

Dr. Fulton graduated from Louisville High School in 1941. After attending Mississippi State University and The University of Mississippi, he received his Medical degree from the University of Alabama. Dr. Fulton, a WWII veteran, served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Haskell as a Pharmacist Mate; he also served in the United States Army as a Surgeon.

During his Army career, Dr. Fulton served in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968 and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Legion of Merit, the WWII Victory Medal, an American Theater Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Overseas Service Bars, National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. Dr. Fulton was inducted as a Fellow into the American College of Surgeons in 1976.

In 1983 after achieving the rank of Colonel, Dr. Fulton retired from the Army. Following his retirement, he practiced medicine in Louisville and later served as the Clinical Director at the Choctaw Health Center in Philadelphia, Mississippi from 1987 to 1993.

He enjoyed working on his computer, traveling, hunting, fishing, sailing and he loved his dogs dearly. He was a member of Rocky Hill United Methodist Church in Louisville.

Preceded in death by his parents Nolan Wayne Fulton, Sr. and Callie Meek Garrigues Fulton; wife, Betty McCollum Fulton and two brothers, William Abner Fulton and Paul Meek Fulton

His survivors include: his wife, De De McGee Fulton, Louisville; one daughter, Carolyn (Fulton) and Jim Newhouse of Dayton, Ohio; one son, Nolan Wayne Fulton III of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; three step-daughters, Jo and Ricky Jackson, Stephanie and Billy McVay and Linda McGee all of Memphis, Tenn.; one step-son, Michael and Terry McGee of Memphis, Tenn.; three grandchildren, James Nolen Newhouse of Dayton, Ohio; Suzanne Elizabeth Newhouse of Washington, D.C.; and John Michael McGee of Memphis, Tenn.; and one brother, Sam and Bonnie Fulton of Louisville.
