J Sam Brown, age 74, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2008. Born in Trinity, Texas, on September 27, 1934, he was the son of Jack L. Brown and Caro Crawford Brown. A 12 year resident of Bergheim, TX, JSam was a member of the Fair Oaks Country Club, where he was an active tennis player. Country music was a major joy in his life, and he was a talented musician. JSam played several instruments, including guitar, banjo and steel guitar. As a gas lift specialist with Exxon, his work took him to Libya, Canada, and Australia, prior to retirement after 30 years of service with the company. Preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Charles Bruce "Toddy" Brown , and his son, Thomas Elliot Brown, Mr. Brown is survived by Wife, Judy; Sister, Carolou Brown Mitchell; Sons, Crawford Brown and his wife Jody Erickson, Robert Clay Brown and is wife, Sara, and Jack L. Brown; Step son, James R. Porche; grandchildren, Jessica Amy Brown, Katy Michelle Brown, Travis Austin Brown, and Neely Kristian Brown. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 30 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be on Friday, October 31 at 1:00 p.m. at Vaughan's Funeral Home, with Pastor Joe Walts, officiating and the Graveside service will held at Mission Park North Cemetery Friday at 3:00 p.m. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gene Martin, Jack Powell, Dub Wilkinson, Chuck Mitchell, Lacey Cannon, Mike Johnson, Jim Cason, Van Veenstra, Joe Montemayor, and Jeff Mills. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sul Ross Scholarship Fund at Texas A & M University.
