Charles Wood Burke, Sr. is the son of Charles Leslie Burke and Fannie Noble Burke. He was the husband of Louise Erwin Burke, the daughter of George Frank Erwin and Lillie Warner Erwin.

Charles Wood Burke, Sr. and Louise Erwin Burke were two of the best well known and highly respected citizens of Attalla, Etowah County Alabama.

Charles Wood Burke, Sr. served as our Mayor of the City of Attalla for 28 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 383 F&AM, the Attalla Water Board and the Attalla Housing Authority. He was Director of the Exchange Bank and First State Bank of Altoona and he served as President of the Exchange Bank until his retirement in January 1969.

He was a native and life-long resident of Attalla, Alabama and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Attalla for 40 years.

Mr. Burke

Charles Wood Burke, 69, 532 North 4th St., Attalla, died yesterday morning at the residence. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Louise Erwin Burke; son, Charles Wood Burke, Jr., Woodbridge, Va.; daughter, Mrs. Cynthia Burke Adams, Kilgore, Texas; six grandchildren, Rhonda Ann Burke and Charles Eric Burke, Woodbridge, Va.; Lillian Lynne Adams, Don Carthel Adams, Jr., Elizabeth Ruth Adams and Ellen Burke Adams, all of Kilgore, Texas.

Services will be tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. from Collier-Butler Chapel with the Rev. William H. Bostick, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers are W.J. Carnes, Ray Collins, Gordon R. Isbell, Jr., S.W. Kelley, Jr., H.L. Locklear, Lamar B. Overstreet, Jack L. Ray and George P. Walker, Jr..
