Elizabeth Ann Wingate Leighton, 89, widow of William J. Leighton, died Wednesday, Oct 4, in Rochester, after an extended illness. She was born Sept. 7, 1861, the daughter of the late George and Harriet Chatterton Wingate, both
natives of England. Although born in the town of Rush, virtually all of her life was spent in
Avon. She was married on Nov. 27, 1890 to Mr. Leighton who died New Year's Day of this year. Mr. Leighton was postmaster at Avon for 13 years.
She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church for i0 years and a life member of Avon chapter, Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving are one son, Clarence T. Leighton of Oswego; two grandchildren, William H. Leighton, Miss Mary Elizabeth Leighton of Oswego; one great-grandchiid, William David Leighton: two sisters in-law, Miss Sarah Leighton of
Rochester and Mrs. Frederick Leighton of Oswego, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Oct 7 at' the Stephenson Funeral Home, with the Rev. W. Edward
Stokesberry, pastor of Central Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was in Avon Cemetery.
