Samuel Tuttle, s. of John Tuttle and Catherine Lane, b. of record "Jan. 9: 1659" at New Haven, Conn. (NHVR) This date would be interpreted as Jan. 9, 1659/60 in the modern Gregorian vs. simply Jan. 9, 1659 in the pre-1752 English (Julian) calendar. In either case Samuel's gravestone inscription is incorrect. He d. of record July 8, 1733 at New Haven, Conn.

In June 1684 (day missing) at New Haven (by John "Mose"), Samuel m. Sarah "Numan" (i.e., Newman), dau. of Richard, purportedly b. June 8, 1665.[*1] She d. Feb. 12, 1707/8 at New Haven. Seven children of the family.

At an unknown date after July 1712, Samuel m. 2) the widow Abigail (Frost) Barnes, by whom there was one child of the marriage.

[*1] Only two children of Richard Newman are recorded in the New Haven Vital Records: Samuel b. July 1, 1656, and Mercy b. Dec. 7, 1665. In the New Haven 1st Church baptism records, Samuel does not appear, "Mersey, dau. of sister Newman" was bapt. Jan. 27, 1665[/66], while "John and Sarah, of Sister Newman," were bapt. in 1665, the month and day missing. All three baptisms (Mercy, John and Sarah) are recorded on the same page.
