Miles "Sonny" Clayton Sowers, 75 of Chambersburg, Pa., died January 13, 2005, in ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg.

He was born July 15, 1929, to the late Jesse and Eva Schreffler Sowers in Milesburg, Pa. His sister, Violet Sowers Watson, preceded him in death.

On May 19, 1957, he married Miriam Albright in Milesburg, Pa., and was the proud father of one daughter, Amy Sowers McAfee and her husband Philip of Fleming, Pa. He is also survived by two grandsons, Scot and wife Marcy McAfee and Brian McAfee, two great-granddaughters, Madisyn and MavaLynn McAfee, all of State College, Pa.

In 1948 he graduated from Bellefonte High School. In 1953 he graduated from Lycoming College with a B.S. degree in business administration. He then joined the Army and graduated from Army Finance School in Indianapolis, Ind. After serving in Japan and Korea he received an honorable discharge in 1955.

He worked as an accountant/auditor for several organizations, including Cerro Metal in Bellefonte, for the state of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg, Olmstead Army Depot in Middletown from 1962 until they closed in 1966, and Indiantown Gap Reservation, Annville, Pa., from 1966-67. He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pa., in 1988.

He was an avid volunteer with the Red Cross for 15 years, donating blood and time. He also was a lifetime member of the Chambersburg Rod and Gun Club. He served as treasurer and helped with other duties of the club as well. He was also a member of the Kittochtinny Historical Society, and volunteered as a tour guide at the jail museum.

He loved trains, airplanes, and just doing for others. Heaven is a richer place because he is there. Friends and family will miss him deeply, but will carry with them in their hearts, the love and care that he bestowed on them. While he left this world for a better place, he has, by his life, left this world a better place!
