A memorial Mass for Virginia Conrad Grant, 96, of Coos Bay, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at St. Monica Catholic Church, 357 S. Sixth St., in Coos Bay, with Father Robert Wolf presiding. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
Virginia was born April 15, 1916, in North Bend. She was the granddaughter of K.V. Kruse, pioneer ship builder and daughter of W. J. Conrad prominent lumberman and Laura Conrad.
She graduated from Marshfield High School in 1934 and attended the University of Oregon where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. In 1938 she married D.J. "Jack" Grant who was a lawyer and Coos Bay city attorney. With the exception of the war years, she lived her entire life in Coos Bay.
Virginia was an enthusiastic sports fan, an avid reader and traveled extensively. She was active as a leader in Camp Fire Girls, St. Monica Altar Society and as a board member of the Coos Art Museum. She was a lifelong member of St. Monica Catholic Church.
After the death of her husband in 1971, she became actively associated with Conrad Lumber Company; serving as credit manager until her retirement at the age of 75 in 1991.
Virginia is survived by her sons, Bob of Boulder, Colo., and Bill of Battle Ground, Wash.; daughters, Nancy and Mary Jane of Lake Oswego; sister, Dorothy Conrad Milne of Sequim, Wash.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W.J. and Laura Conrad; husband, DJ "Jack" Grant; brother, Roger K. Conrad; and infant daughter, Patricia Marie.
