Politician. Chancellor of West Germany from 1966 to 1969, member of the CDU party. He graduated as a lawyer two years before the Nazis came to power in Germany. In 1933 he began a law practice in Berlin and in 1949 he became a member of the German parliament. He was the Governor of the German State of Baden-Württemberg from 1958 to 1966. In 1966 he became the third chancellor (Bundeskanzler) of the Federal Republic of Germany after World War II.
