Charles Jedidiah "Chuck" Schlotter, 83 year old Checotah resident, died Sunday, January 13, 2013 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Chuck was born Wednesday, July 10, 1929 to Godfrey and Leiah (Herriger) Schlotter on a 260 acre farm in Garrett, Indiana where his family farmed and raised livestock of different kinds. He spent every morning before school milking the many family cows. Chuck attended school in Avilla, Indiana, playing basketball during his high school years and graduating from Avilla High School. He joined the United States Air Force which was the US Air Corps at the time of his enlistment in 1948 in San Antonio, Texas. Chuck served in the Korean Conflict War and Vietnam as an Aircraft Ground Equipment Repairman Tech, Air Craft Electrician and Aircraft Mechanic on B52 Bombers along with other military aircraft. He was awarded the Air Force Long Service Ribbon on Wednesday, March 18, 1964 and again on Monday, March 18, 1968, The National Defense Service Medal along with the Air Force Good Conduct Medal for his service during 1963 and 1966. Chuck retired from The United States Air Force after 20 years of honorable service on Sunday, March 31, 1968 at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Indiana. He then attended Rose State College in Mid West City, benefits of the GI Bill. On Thursday, February 15, 1979 Chuck married his sweetheart, Miss Edna Mae Lemons, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After retiring, he spent 10 years at Tinker Air Force Base doing what he loved most, working on the B52 bomber. He also worked for the State of Oklahoma Highway Department, and later as a plumber, handyman and helped at the water department in Jones, Oklahoma. Chuck loved to collect metal as a hobby, loved camping and fishing and singing at church. He was a member of the Hope Baptist Church in Checotah, Oklahoma as well as the American Legion, past member of the Del City VFW post for many years. Chuck was a dear man, a very good American who loved his country, all people and God Almighty. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Dick and Bob Schlotter, and sister Cheryl Miller. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery with full military honors provided by The United States Air Force Funeral Detail under the personal direction of John Garrett. The United States Air Force Honor Guard will serve as Casket Bearers.
