Obituary of Zenas Williamson, Sr.

Funeral services for Zenas Oreum “Z. O.” Williamson, 91, of Roanoke will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at 1:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Dr. Hughey Reynolds and Rev. Josh Hickman officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 27 before services begin.

Mr. Williamson passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017, at Bill Nichols States Veterans Home in Alexander City, Alabama.

Survivors include his wife, Frances McDaniel Williamson of Roanoke; three sons, Zenas O. Williamson, Jr., of Marietta, GA, Dr. and Mrs. David Kelley Williamson of Birmingham, and Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Richard Williamson of Virginia Beach, VA; two daughters, Mrs. Melinda Jeter Lipham (husband, Tommy) of Wedowee and Mrs. Ingrid Jeter Webb (husband, Michael) of Madison, AL; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one brother, Mr. Preston Williamson of Marietta, GA; Ms. Donna Williamson and Ms. Mona Williamson; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Williamson’s grandchildren, Lemont Herring, Jacky Hammonds, Carl Battles, Donnie Knight, and Trae Strain.

A lifelong Alabama resident, Mr. Williamson was born in Wedowee on July 25, 1925, the son of James Albert and Mamie Lee Craven Williamson of the Swagg Community. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wedowee and was retired from Liberty National Insurance Company. Mr. Williamson was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Army with honor. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and father to all. He loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, and gardening. Mr. Williamson was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; two brothers; and wife, Katherine.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the Bill Nichols State Veterans Home for their loving care and support. Also, thank you to Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee for all the arrangements
