Odessa: - John Louis Pinkerton, former Halfway resident, died Monday March 22, 1982, in his sleep in Four Seasons Nursing Home in Odessa, Texas, after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 2 P.M., Wednesday in First United Methodist Church in Odessa with the assistant pastor, the Rev. Lacy C. Standifer, officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Born June 19, 1904 in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Mr. Louis Pinkerton, moved with his parents, the late Mr. William Ward Pinkerton, and Mrs. Lura Kayser Pinkerton to Halfway, Texas, in 1909. He attended grade school in Halfway, and then attended Plainview High School and graduated from there.

Louis Pinkerton attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. After receiving his teacher's certificate, he taught several years in Cottle County near Paducah and served as principal of Post Ward School.

Later he and his brother, W.A. (Bill) Pinkerton, owned and operated a drug store and wholesale candy business in Lubbock, Texas,for a few years.

After his marriage to Adria Baker of Halfway, Texas, June 21, 1934, in Lubbock, Texas, he became interested in photography and moved to Wink, Texas, where he operated Pinkerton's Studio. From Wink, he moved to Monahans and operated Pinkerton's Studio and Camera Shop from 1941 until 1976 when he retired to Odessa.

Louis Pinkerton, was active in civic affairs in Monahans, was past president of the Monahans Chamber of Commerce and a member of the board of directors of First National Bank.

He was honored as Boss of the Year. He served as chairman of the Ward County Republican Party for 20 years.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Odessa at the time of his death. He served as a member of the Official Board of the First United Methodist Church in Monahans when he was a resident there. He was also a member of the Lions Club.

Survivors are one daughter, Mrs.Richard Lura Pinkerton Sivalls of Odessa, seven brothers, W.A.(Bill) Pinkerton of Edmonson, Bob Pinkerton, of Plainview, Texas, Ward and Owens Pinkerton of Halfway, Texas, Allen Pinkerton of Los Angeles, California, And Cecil Pinkerton of Durham, North Carolina, and one sister Mrs. John (Helen) Hart of Mission, Texas. and two grandchildren Stephanie and Tracy Sivalls of Odessa.
