Dr. Andrew J. Abbott, 60, well known Marshfield veterinarian, died of heart failure at about 8:30 o'clock last night at his home on S. Cedar street. He had been ill about a week before his death. Dr. Abbott was born at Whitehall on Feb. 10, 1877, the son of William and Belle Abbott, who came to Whitehall from Canada. He attended the grade and high schools there, and at the age of 20 he worked for construction company as time keeper. Later he worked for the Milwaukee street railway company for five years. Upon retiring from this work, he enrolled for a course of study in the Ontario Veterinary college in Toronto, Canada, from, which he was graduated in 1907, soon after which he established himself in this city to practice his profession. Alderman in 1928 Oct. 16, 1901, Dr. Abbott was married at Whitehall to Miss Mabel Congdon, who preceded him in death on Sept. 14, 1917. One son, Clark Abbott, of this city, and two grandchildren survive him. An adopted daughter, Delia Abbott, city, also survives, as do four brothers and one sister. Two brothers preceded him in death . Dr. Abbott was prominent in civic affairs and for four years served his ward as alderman on the common council. He was elected by the council in June, 1928, to fill one of the positions created by the addition of new wards to the city. Sixth ward voters returned him to the council in 1929 for a one-year term, and for a full term in 1930. When his term expired in 1932 he declined to be a candidate again. During his time as alderman Dr. Abbott served as chairman of the board of health. Active in Organizations Fraternally he was identified with the Marshfield Masons, the Oddfellows, the Elks, Woodmen, and the Equitable Fraternal union. In professional circles, he was a member of the American Veterinary Medical association, the Wisconsin State Veterinary Medical association, and the Central Wisconsin Veterinary society, and vice-president of the Wisconsin State Board oi veterinary examiners. Announcement will be made in the News-Herald tomorrow of the exact hour of the funeral, which will be held Saturday. The Masonic lodge will be in charge of the rites, and will be assisted by the Rev. Henry Brendimihl. The body will lie in state at the home at 313 S. Cedar street until the time of the funeral which will be held from the Seehafer- Hansen funeral home.
