DETROIT LAKES, MINN. - Ronald A. Barker, 76, formerly of Union, died Jan. 12, 2013, at Essentia Health - Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, Minn. Ronald Abbott Barker was born May 13, 1936, in Rockland, to Edgar and Christine Brown Barker.

He grew up and received his education in Union. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Tolman, July 17, 1955. He worked as a mechanic at the family business, Barker's Garage for 45 years before retiring and moving to Detroit Lakes in 2000 to be near his son, who was battling cancer. Ron was always willing to help others, which he did in many different ways. He enjoyed volunteering at Detroit Lakes Wetlands District and Becker County Food Pantry. Ron also enjoyed reading and the walks that he took frequently.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; one son, Jeffrey and Barbara Barker of Branford, Conn.; four grandchildren, Samantha Barker, Matthew Barker, Peter and Lin Stoyak, and Kelly Stoyak; four great-grandchildren, Kristi Stoyak, Nikki Stoyak, Melissa Stoyak and Tory Torello; one sister, Mary Alice and Fred Carey of St, George; one niece and three cousins. He was predeceased by his son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Julie Barker; one brother, David Barker; and parents.

Interment will be at a later time in the spring at East Union Cemetery, Union. (Bangor Daily News 1/15/2013)
