The following article/obituary was published in the March 17, 1949, issue of The Mountain Eagle:
Investigation Held Concerning Death Of Cornettsville Man
The Perry County sheriff's office was still investigating the death of one Cornettsville man and the serious injury of his brother today, after a Saturday evening gun fight in Cornettsville. The dead man is Charles Hamilton and his brother Jim Hamilton, who was said to be resting fair this morning in the Mount Mary Hospital.
According to Elmer Holliday, of the sheriff's office, several warrants will be issued in the next day or so. Mr. Holliday said that Hollie Riddle and Rollie Riddle, both deputies in Cornettsville went to the scene of the shooting after they heard shots being fired at the railway crossing in the town at 10 o'clock. The deputies said that apparently there had been heavy drinking. Mr. Holliday said that evidently there had been shooting both before and after the deputy arrived. At noon today no one had been arrested.
Charles Hamilton, 32, is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Christine; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dow Hamilton; brothers, William, Kirby, Jim, Ray, Frank, Riley, and Harvey, and one sister, Mrs. Nora Morrison.
