Henry Swinson Martin, age 69, of Concord, North Carolina, died on September 15, 1997, at Transitional Health Services in Kannapolis.

Graveside services were held at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. Rev. Peter Hale officiated.

Swinson was born December 27, 1927, in Madison County, Georgia. He was the son of the late H.T. Martin and Mazelle Booth Strickland. Swinson was retired from Cannon Mills Co. Plant 1, weave room, and then worked part-time for Metal Industries in Concord.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and attended Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church in Concord.

Swinson was preceded in death by a half-brother, Richard Albert "Buddy" Strickland of Kannapolis, and a half-sister, Shelby Jean Strickland Tyner of Kannapolis.

Survivors include his wife, Claudia Jane Little Martin of the family home, a son, Gary Wayne Martin of Kannapolis, a daughter, Priscilla Earnhardt (husband Randy) of Kannapolis, five half-sisters, Rosa Lee "Faye" Strickland of Concord, Wynna Stancil of Kannapolis, Elizabeth Williams of Danielsville, Georgia, Frances Hayes of Atlanta, Georgia, and Hendal McCollum of Royston, Georgia, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
