Mrs. Susanne Pirotte was born at Sheboygan, Wisconsin, March 1, 1847 and departed this life at Greenleaf, Kansas, June 11, 1929, aged 82 years, 3 months and 11 days.
In the year 1967, she was united in marriage to Anthony Pirotte and in 1870 they came to Kansas where they took a homestead, nine miles south and four miles east of Greenleaf. Coming into a new county at that early time they naturally encountered many hardships and privations when fell on the lot of the pioneer settlers of Kansas. They lived on their homestead for a number of years, after making their home at Beloit and then at Seneca, returning to Greenleaf about eleven years ago.
Mr. Pirotte passed away in 1926 and since that time Mrs. Pirotte made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Barney Diederich.
Eight children came to bless their union, four boys and four girls, three of whom preceded the mother in death.
Those surviving children are Hebert of North Dakota, Mrs. John Fisher of Plainville, Kansas, Mrs. Barney Diederich and Mrs. Matt Diederich of Greenleaf, and P. J. Pirotte of Los Angeles. She is also survived by twenty-five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Mrs. Pirotte was a good and faithful wife and mother and her loss is deeply mourned by her loved ones.
Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Church in Greenleaf, Friday, June 14, at 9 a.m. conducted y Father Kirkpatrick and interment was in Sacred Heart cemetery.
