He attended Center Bethel Church.He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 2453 in Cherryvale, the American Bowling Congress and Buckmasters.He was an avid bow hunter.He enjoyed fishing, bowling, bingo, music and dancing, especially the two-step.
He married Donna (Hoag) Gillespie in 1973.She preceded him in death in May 1986.
He married Katherine (Perilla) Linder.They were divorced.
He married Cheryl (Smith) Kersey on July 23, 1999, in Parsons.She survives of the home.
