Martha Caroline Jennings married George Sherwood Bowman on July 23, 1882 at the home of John Jennings by John P. Stewart, Justice of the Peace; witness J.F. Watson, J.R. Taylor

Martha must have died young because there is no further record of her after marriage. If she died in Jackson Co., she would be buried at Pine Creek Cemetery. Martha and her husband had a son, George Melvin Bowman born Mar. 30, 1883.

It has been said that Melvin had a twin, but no record of this has been found.

Melvin's father married Sarah Ann Woods on Aug. 26, 1888. They moved to Georgia where they had a number of children together.

Melvin was raised by his mother's family. On the 1890 census, hiis mother's sister, Charity was listed as his "mother".
