Roger Allen Phillips, 67, of 575 Woodlawn Ave., Martinsville, died Monday, April 11, 2011, at Wake Forest University Medical Center, Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was born May 20, 1943, in Radford to the Rev. Dorsie Hampton Phillips of Martinsville and Anne Phillips Phillips. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Chelsea McGhee.
He retired from DuPont in Martinsville with nearly 30 years of service, then became a driver for Highland Express.
He was a member of Mercy Crossing Church in Martinsville, where he was Sunday school superintendent and was in the choir.
Surviving, in addition to his father, are his wife Pam Phillips of the home; two daughters, Robin Phillips Minter of Martinsville and Cheryl Phillips McGhee of Stuart; two sons, Mickey Allen Phillips and Roger "R.W." Phillips, both of Martinsville; two sisters, Brenda Stroud of Nashville, Tenn., and Patricia Gowen of Lynchburg; a brother, Jerry H. Phillips of Martinsville; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a step-grandchild.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mercy Crossing Church with Pastors Jackie Poe and Eric Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church and other times at the home.
