Head of the CID in the Metropolitan Police's H Division in Whitechapel and he was also an early aeronaut.

His parents were Martha Elizabeth Olivia Driver (born 1827) and John Reid (born 1818).

Joined the police force in 1872.

H Division most famous case was the hunt for serial killer "Jack the Ripper". In an interview in 1912 regarding the Jack the Ripper case, Edmund believed that "Jack" was a drunk who lived locally, and who had no recollection of his crime.
