JOHN M. PARTIN DEAD
John M. Partin, a well known and highly esteemed pioneer farmer, died this morning at his home of nearly half a century, three miles north of town. He was about 179 years old, and was born in Grundy County, Tennessee, at a point known as Burrow's Cave, named for the old family of whom many descendants are living here, he being one of them, and the King's of this vicinity being also a branch. These families and others of that locality came to Texas about the year 1850, settling near Nacogdoches. These are a large number of them living here now.
Mr. Partin married a Lilly and his wife and several children, also his only brother, George W. Partin of this city survive him. Fairview, four miles east of here, is their old burial ground, in the vicinity where most of them always lived. The hour of interment will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow, the 18th. Rev. Mills of this city will conduct the funeral.
He was a good Confederate soldier, and was once wounded with a saber in a cavalry fight and was unhorsed and taken prisoner near Lafayette, La. Few better men have lived, and his loss will be mourned by many.
