In the death of Charles P. Fenner, 70, which occurred on September 14, 1929, at his home Mexico loses one of its most widely known residents. For sixteen years Mr. Fenner had made his home here and for the past six years had served as distributor of the Syracuse Post Standard, which brought him in contact with many residents. Always singing or whistling while on his route, his presence on the streets of our village will be greatly missed. He died after a brief illness, although to his many friends it was known that Charlie was failing in health,. Charles Fenner was born in the town of Fowler, St. Lawrence county, February 16, 1859, the son of the late Judson F. and Eleanor Fenner. Previous to his coming to Mexico Mr. Fenner for twenty years conducted a barber shop at Gouverneur, N.Y Leaving Gouverneur he came to this section of the state and for six years engaged in farming in the town of New Haven on what is known as the O'Dell farm. He then moved to Lycoming where he again entered the barbering trade for about a year, then coming to Mexico where he and his family settled permanently. Charlie Fenner was well known throughout this entire Section, and especially in the northern part as for a number of years to make yearly visits to the Firemens Balls at Theresa and Antwerp,calling for the dances, which duty he performed in an expert manner. Surviving are his wife; Nettie Gilmore Fenner ; three sons, Karl Fenner, Everett Fenner, Sherman Fenner and a daughter Mrs R.K. Clark. Burial in Mexico Village Cemetery
