Son of Daniel Shaler Hawkins and Harriet Terry, husband of Sarah Eliza Hawkins and father of Frank W., Grace E. (married Vernon Mount Ball), Hattie E., Lulu E. (married Stanley Covert Jewell) and Lilly Hawkins.

Obituary - Capt. Elbert Hawkins, aged 80, died very suddenly at his home in Stony Brook last Friday afternoon. Capt. Hawkins was in good health and was working in his garden a few minutes before his death. He was a member of the M.E. Church and was one of the official board. Funeral services were held at his late home Monday afternoon, Rev. A.H. Beckett officiated, burial was in the family plot at Oak Hill Cemetery. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Grace Ball of Floral Park, Mrs. Stanley Jewell and Miss Hattie Hawkins of Stony Brook.
