Gerald F. "Jerry" Buckman Sr., 88, of Metamora, formerly of Peoria Heights, passed away at 5:34 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
Jerry was born on July 26, 1924, in Monroe City, Mo., to Albert A. and Maude E. (Williams) Buckman. He married Anna Christian on Feb. 16, 1943, in Monroe City, Mo. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Gerald (Mary Ann) Buckman Jr. of Cassellberry, Fla., Janann (William) Nevins of Irmo, S.C., Michael (Lauri) Buckman of Kansas City, Mo., Lisa (James) Keyser of Metamora and Gina (Michael) Schaber of Peoria; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Louise Hollingsworth of Paris, Mo.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Keyser; seven brothers; and four sisters.
Jerry was a veteran and served during World War II. He worked in sales and management at Peoria Motors and University Ford, from where he retired in 1988.
He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and Timberlake Country Club. He was an avid Cardinals and Cubs fan, and he loved to golf.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Father Thomas Taylor will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Snyder Village or Alzheimer's Research.
