Dewey R. Reed, 88, Galva, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at his home.

Dewey was born May 14, 1924, in Henderson Township, Knox County, the son of Guy Edward and Zola Grace (Morgan) Reed. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1941. On Sept. 4, 1948, he married Mary Jane Connour in Knoxville. She survives. Dewey had worked on the home farm and then as a welder at Herman Nelson Corp. He then farmed and worked for Illinois State Highway Dept. Later he sold fertilizer at Schrock Fertilizer Co. before owning and operating Reed's Bin & Building Center, selling grain bins, drying equipment and farm buildings. He had also sold Coach House Garages for over 20 years. Dewey retired in 2009.
Memberships include Galva Masonic Lodge 243 where he was a Past Master and a 50-year member, Moline Scottish Rite and the Peoria Shriners. He enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Janice Reed, Oneida; daughters and son-in-law, Karen and Richard Hurlbutt, Galva, and Gail Drawyer, Kewanee; and sisters-in-law, Dale and Nancy Reed, Galesburg, and Lee and Carol Reed, Blandinsville; and a sister, Fern Saline, Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Linda Carol.

Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Galesburg.
