Mrs. Lois G. Helfrich, 87, of Alliance, formerly of Carrollton, died last Thursday in alliance City Hospital following a brief illness. She was born June 26, 1899 in Hanoverton, a daughter of the late William and Grace (Hemming) Ashbrook. She was a member of Carrollton Trinity Lutheran Church, where she formerly served as organist, and was a past worthy matron of Carroll Chapter 315, Order of Eastern Star. Daughters of American Revolution of Massillon.
She was married February 26, 1919 to Charles "Doc" Helfrich, who died in 1979. They operated Helfrich's Confectionery and Home Store in the building presently occupied by D-Jay's on Public Square until 1954. Survivors include a son, John Helfrich of Sherman Oakes, California; a daughter, Lois Ann Goodall of Alliance; a sister, Mrs. Ralph (Mary) Hendershot of Massillon; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday at Sweney-Dodds Funeral Home in Carrollton with Pastor Dean F. Lewis officiating. Burial was in Grandview Cemetery in Carrollton.
