S.D. Bud Bender, son of Theodore and Cecila (Brakke) Bender, was born on the family farm north of Fulton, SD on October 6, 1929. Bud attended country school in the Fulton area. After his schooling he helped on the family farm.
Bud entered the US Army on March 20, 1952 and served as a trainer. He was united in marriage with Jean Learn on January 17, 1953 at the United Methodist Church in Fulton, SD. Bud was honorably discharged on March 19, 1954 and returned to the Fulton area. The couple farmed in the Fulton area where he raised livestock and feed cattle until Buds retirement in 2000.
Bud was a member of the Fulton United Methodist Church, served on the Fulton Farmers Elevator Board for 26 years and as treasurer of the Fairview Township board for 20 years. He also was an Epley Corn Dealer. In his spare time, Bud enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, tinkering in the shop and going to horse shows. Bud also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, going to cattle auctions, feeding cattle, dancing and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jean; three brother-in-laws, Wayne Easton, James Learn and Franklin Learn.
