Services will be conducted at 10 A. M. Thursday, May 12, 2011, in Crosier - Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 P. M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Chester was born to Robert Fulton Metcalf and Juanita Rayburn Metcalf on March 1, 1930, in Venus, Texas. Chester married Patsy Wynona Matthews on March 4, 1950, in Alvarado. He proudly served in the U. S. Army during the early 1950's, with duty assignments in England at RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall. He retired in 1994 as a purchasing manager for Campbell Taggart Bakeries with more than 30 years of distinguished service. He was of the Methodist faith.
Chester was known as a phenomenal story - teller and historian who was blessed with an impeccable memory and recall. His love for his wife, children and grandchildren was boundless. Chester was a avid reader, a lover of the movie " The Christmas Story " and a crossword puzzle aficionado. Chester was a family man who enjoyed "grouse hunting" with his favorite cousins every six weeks or so. his razor - sharp wit and stories will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.
Chester was preceded in death by his parents and by his granddaughter, Sara Ashley Metcalf.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Patsy Metcalf; son, Craig Metcalf and his wife, Bobbie; daughter, Jennifer Walker and her husband, Henry Jr.; grandchildren, Michael Alt, Trey Walker, Dustin Alt, David Alt, and Katie Metcalf; sisters and brothers - in - law, Pat and Jim Watson, and Sandra and Joe Bitz; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of other relatives and loving friends.
