Fred R. Schultz was born in Eldorado Township, Stevens County on June 4, 1916, the son of Mrs. Mabel Schultz and the late George Schultz. He and Rita Kopel were married in 1941.
He was a carpenter and a building contractor in this area all of his adult life. He built the mill at the Herman Market Company, a grain complex in Willmar and was in the process of building a grain elevator, which he had designed, on the LeVern Kellen farm Northwest of Norcross. He also built several homes in the area including the Roger Groth and Art Johnson homes. He was active in St. Charles Catholic Church and the Herman Fire Department. He was chief of the Fire Department for six years.
He is survived by his wife Rita; by his children, Jerry, Nick, Kathy, Sandy, Steve and Lori; by his mother Mrs. Mabel Schultz of Herman; by a brother George; and by two sisters, Dorothy Schultz of Pasadena, Calif., and Mary.
He was preceded in death by his father and three children.
