He was born October 13, 1894, son of David Harrison and Matilda Sophia Wilds Black in Hays Boro, Allegheny Co., PA.
He graduated from Center Township High School and California Normal School. He was a veteran of World War I, having served in France. He was a retired teacher, having taught in several Greene Co Schools and retired from the Nineveh Grade School.
Surviving are his wife, Nelle Webster Black, whom he married August 15, 1929; two daughters, Betty Mae Black, Pittsburgh, PA and Grace Louise Black, Nineveh; two sons, William Webster ( Sheila) Black, Avella, PA and Samuel Harrison Black, Nineveh, PA; five grandchildren; two brothers, Samuel A. Black and Harry D. Black, both of Nineveh, PA and three sisters, Myrtle (Glenn) Cathers of Nineveh, Matilda (Frank) Mulvaney of Waynesburg, and Gladys (Edward B.)Davidson, Daytona Beach, FL.
