UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS - VIETNAM

Joseph M. David, 68, of Rosenhayn (Deerfield Township) died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, Jan. 20, 2013, at his home.

The husband of Nancy J. (Penn) David, he was born and raised in Bridgeton and was the son of the late Joseph A. and Mary Mogolosky David.

A 1962 graduate of Bridgeton High School, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at age 23 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was decorated with several honors, including a Purple Heart.

He was a long-distance tractor-trailer driver for most of his life. He was self-employed for several years and later worked for the J.B. Hunt Company in Philadelphia before retiring on a disability.

Recently, Joe became active with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, which allowed him to spend time on the Delaware Bay. He loved fishing and boating and happily served as a volunteer with the Coast Guard, assisting with boater safety. Other hobbies included working on his Corvette, shooting pool and watching John Wayne movies and other "cowboy" shows. His favorite was watching old "Gunsmoke" episodes. He was devoted to his family and was especially influential in raising his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Lisa David; five grandchildren, James "Jay" and Scott Lutner, Ashlyn Lutner, Amy David and Jordan Schewlakow; three great-grandchildren, Anthony, Madison and Dezirae; two aunts, Laura Chew and Hazel Mogoloski; and a cousin, Darlene Russell. Joe was predeceased by his daughter, Lori Stiles, in 2011.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton, and will be followed funeral liturgy at The Parish of the Holy Cross/Church of the Immaculate Conception, 312 N. Pearl St., Bridgeton. The burial will follow at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton. Friends will be received at the funeral home.
