Helen A. Radtke, age 81, of Mineral Point, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at U.W. Hospital – Madison due to complications during surgery. The former Helen Benson was born December 30, 1931 at General Hospital of Iowa County to Charles and Jane (Fitzsimmons) Benson. Helen attended several Iowa County Schools and was a 1949 graduate of the Dodgeville High School. She married Lawrence F. Radtke on June 1, 1952 and the couple farmed their entire married life on the Radtke Family Farm in the Pleasant View area, rural Mineral Point. Lawrence preceded her in death on November 18, 1996. Helen was active in 4-H, being a General Leader of the Pleasant View 4-H Club for 10 years. She has been a helper at the Iowa County Fair in the Foods Department for many years. Helen was Chairperson of the Iowa County Farm Bureau Women for several years and served on the Board of Directors as Secretary –Treasurer and served as District 3 State Chairwoman for 24 years. Helen was active on the Iowa County Dairy Committee for several years and even hosted the June Dairy Breakfast on their farm. She also assisted with Home Health Care for several years and was later employed at Mineral Point Care Center and Lands’ End. Helen was Past-President of the Iowa County Historical Society and served on the Advisory Board of the Mineral Point Care Center. She was also a member of the Governor Dodge Rebekah Lodge #74 where she served as Secretary for many years.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Jane Benson; her stepfather, Jacob Hahs and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Radtke.

Helen is survived by her two sons, Tom (Anna) Radtke and Rod (Mary Sue) Radtke, both of rural Mineral Point; four grandchildren, Chris (Keri) Radtke; Carrie (John) Barker; Leah Radtke and Luke Radtke; four great grandchildren, Blake and Brady Radtke and Cash and Conrad Barker as well as other relatives and many friends.
