JAMES T. "JIM" ABRAMS SR, age 73, of Claridon, died peacefully Saturday morning, January 19, 2013, at the Ohio State University Medical Center following a fifteen year battle with heart troubles.
On July 20, 1939, Jim was born in Marion, Ohio, the son of the late Ernest and Winifred (Lampert) Abrams. He attended Marion Harding High School.
For over 25 years, Jim worked as a machinist for Tecumseh Products in Marion. He also worked as a custodian for the River Valley School systems for fourteen and a half years, until he retired in 2002.
Having met on a blind date, Jim quickly knew Sharon Siegfried was the girl he would marry. Shortly thereafter, they were married on October 18, 1964, at the Edison United Methodist Church, where they both were members.
For many years Jim served an assistant scout leader for the Boy Scouts Troop 8 in Marion, helping while his two sons became Eagle Scouts.
An avid Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians fan, Jim has been suffering thru many bad Cleveland teams for many years.
With a love for fishing, Jim enjoyed fishing in the State Lakes Park in Mount Gilead and the Delaware State Park. He also loved spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
To say Jim was "ornery" would be quite the understatement, because he was known to go too far at times when he was picking on people. Nevertheless, anyone who knew him, knew he was good natured and didn't mean any harm by it.
He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Sharon Abrams of Claridon; three children: Kimberly Wooten of Virginia, Jamie (Carol) Abrams Jr. of Cardington, and Rhonda Abrams of Claridon; five grandchildren: Lt. Dirk Wooten, Macie (Lemaster) Wooten-Farrell, Tommy, David and Matthew Abrams; two step-grandchildren: Nichole and Taylor Tucker; two great-grandchildren: Teya and Liana Farrell; three brothers: Robert (Joyce) Abrams, Everett (Thelma) Abrams, and Martin (Linda) Abrams; a sister, Martha Abrams, all four of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Abrams in 1999; and by three brothers and six sisters.
The Abrams family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main Street, Mount Gilead. Services honoring his life and acknowledging his orneriness will also be held there on Friday at 10:30 a.m., with Celebrant Don Lockwood officiating. Burial will follow in Claridon Cemetery.
