Josephine Wade Froyd, 89, widow of E.T. Froyd, died Saturday afternoon at Westminster Village where she had lived the past several years.

Mrs. Froyd was born in Bluffton and came to Muncie as a child with her parents, Rev. C.U. and Elizabeth Welborn Wade. She later lived in Wabash, Fort Wayne and Logansport before graduating in 1918 from DePauw University at Greencastle where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She also received an M.A. in education from Ball State.

Mrs. Froyd came to Muncie from Paxton, Ill., in 1924 shortly after the death of her husband and for a time was Wesley Foundation Director of College Avenue United Methodist Church. She later taught at Jefferson School many years before her retirement. She was a member of High Street United Methodist Church, High Street Flower Mission, United Methodist Women and Alpha Chi Omega Alumnae. She was also a member of Tri Kappa Sorority and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Surviving are a daughter, Joann (Mrs. Robert) Bartholomew, Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Mary E. Wade, Westminster Village; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her father was pastor of High Street church when the old brick church was built.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Meeks Mortuary with Dr. R. Sheldon Duecker, senior pastor of High Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Entombment will be in Elm Ridge Mausoleum. Calling hours at the mortuary are 6-8 p.m. Tuesday or before services Wednesday.
