Memorial service for Donald B. Verner, 82 of Lawton, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Antwine, officiating.
Donald Beryl Verner passed away January 20, 2013.
He was born in Chico Texas on August 3, 1930 to Charles and Jessie Verner.
After graduating from Rush Springs High School in 1947, he worked as a cowhand with The Perkins Ranch in the Texas Panhandle and later he joined the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict . He has been a resident of Lawton since 1952. Most of his career was spent in sales and management. He started Verner Coffee Company in the 1960's serving restaurants and schools in Oklahoma and Texas. He worked with Dan Rudder Volkswagen and was a long time employee of Toyota of Lawton ultimately becoming the sales manager and general manager. After his retirement from automobile management and sales he started Verner Construction. He loved carpentry & used his talents in many ways. He was also an avid gardener and kept an immaculate lawn and flowers passing this love down to his daughters. Don was not a member of a local church but was a member of God's church and worshiped God daily in how he took care of his family and prayed for them daily.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 42 years, Jerri, daughters Beryl Bazor of Lawton, Denise Henderson and husband Jeff of Georgetown, TX, Mary Keck and husband Jim of Shawnee OK, Karen Scherf and husband Tony of Oklahoma City, Paula Childers and husband Al of TX, Nick Green of Livermore CA, and sister Helen Lyons of Edmond OK, 8 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and two brothers and one sister.
