Born on May 19, 1924 in Washington, D.C. he was the son of the late Harvey Nathan Diehl and Elsie Suit Diehl. He began an apprenticeship at the Washington Navy Yard until entering the U.S. Navy in 1944. After his discharge from the military in 1946, he married Erma on July 20, and resided in Washington, D.C. Robert and his wife moved to Suitland in 1950 and in 1952 created Diehl Signs in Camp Springs, Maryland. They resided in Charles County for 31 years, retired in 1986, and moved to Symphony Village located in Centreville, Maryland in 2006.
Mr. Diehl is a life member of the VFW, a life member of the Lions Club and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Clinton Bank and the Suburban Federal Bank for 28 years.
Mr. Diehl is survived by his wife Erma; two children, two grandchildren, and one sister, Peggy Thomas. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynda Haislip.
