Alton was the oldest of five sons born to Charles William and Agnes (Ogilvie) Rendall. He farmed most of his life in Prescott township in Faribault County, Minnesota. He married Bertha I Bassett on February 4, 1900 at Bricelyn, Minnesota. They had 7 children (Florence Agnes, Rachel Ann, Helen B., Verle Lucille, Mae Gertrude, Dempsy Charles and Eldon Hartlow).
