John "Jack" Burns, age 84 of Tyrone Township, LeSueur County, passed away on August 6, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11a.m. on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in St. Thomas, MN. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00p.m. on Monday at the Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur and continue from 9:00-10:15a.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday before processing over to the church. Interment will be in the St. Thomas Catholic Church Cemetery.

Jack was born on June 20, 1926 to Timothy and Alice (Halloran) Burns in Mankato, MN. He grew up in St Thomas and attended Distrct 64 School. On June 24, 1948, he married Laraine Pexa at St. Wenceslaus in New Prague, MN. Together they had two daughters, Loni and Diane. In 1952, Laraine passed away. Jack then married Evangeline "Vangie"(Wondra) on November 9, 1953 at Holy Redeemer Church in Montgomery, MN. They added 5 children to their family Bob, Patti, Barb, Colleen and Mary Jo. He worked as a farmer in Tyrone Twp. and truck driver for Bongards. He hauled cattle and gravel. He also worked 22 years for J.L. Sheily, a limestone quarry in Savage, MN.

He enjoyed his retirement keeping busy working on his farm, driving friends to the Veterans Hospital and riding his four wheeler around the farm and neighborhood. Jack enjoyed playing cards, dancing, listening to his music, playing piano and guitar, siniging with his family, watching the MN Twins, working on machinery in his shop and later birdwatching. He is preceded in death by wife Laraine, parents, brother Timmie, sisters, Mildred (Ralph) Grahm, Alice (Cletus) Hoehn, Kathleen (John)Fogarty and brother-in-law, Charles Wolff.

He is survived by his wife, Evangeline "Vangie" Burns; Children, Loni (Tom) Graham of Henderson, Diane (Al) Palmstein of New Prague, Barney "Bob" (Jean) Burns of LeSueur, Patti Burns of Belle Plaine, Barb (Mike) Ruhland of Montgomery, Colleen (Dale) Rohloff of LeSueur and Mary Jo (Tim) Boelter of Green Isle; Sisters, Madelyne Wolff of Madison Lake and Mary Grace O'Brien of Henderson; Brother, Edward (Eileen) Burns In Laws, Rosemary Burns, Eugene (Margaret) Pexa and Len (Vi) Wondra; 25 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other family members.
