Mr. Mayo was a career public high school Vocational Education educator. His teaching career began at Collingswood High School in 1951 where he remained until 1956. He then was employed at the new Delaware Township High School, later Cherry Hill West, in 1956. When Cherry Hill East High School opened in 1967 he transferred to that school and remained there until his retirement in 1990.
Beloved husband of Doris M. (nee Lingo). Loving father of Linda Wilson of League City, Texas, Deborah Mayo of Westmont, NJ and Terry Maldanado of Hayward, California. Grandfather of Earnest Bryan Wilson, Wendy E. Wilson and Meredith A. Wilson. Brother of sisters; Elizabeth Heitz of Anoka, Minnesota, Dorothy Nunes of Walnut Creek, California, Mary Ann Majo of Bothell, Washington, Margaret Knutson of Rochester, Minnesota and brother Paul Mayo of San Ramone, California.
Mr. Mayo was born in Anoka, Minnesota. He was a army veteran of World War II serving in the 1st Infantry Division as a Corporal. He was a graduate of the Minnesota School of Agricuture. Graduated with a B.S. degree from Minnesota State in 1951. Ernie earned a M.S. degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1961. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa.
He was a life member of the National Education Association. He was a past President of the New Jersey Vocational Association and was a member of Tau Delta Epislon professional fraternity. He published four books on professional education in New Jersey. Avocationally he was a member of the Audubon Poet's Group since 1955 and had published many articles of poetry. He was a member, elder and Sunday School teacher at the Logan Memorial Presbyterian Church in Audubon, New Jersey where he also sang in the choir for 25 years. Ernie was also a amateur wine maker of great skill.
