Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8,
2005, at Trinity C.M.E. Church for Floyd D. Andrews, 85, who died Saturday,
Sept. 3, 2005, at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Services will be conducted by Rev. A. B. Caesar.

Entombment will be in Immaculate Heart of Mary Mausoleum.

Floyd D. Andrews was born to the union of Davis and Rebecca Andrews May 22,
1920 in Lafayette, La. The oldest son of eight siblings, he followed in his
father's footsteps into the field of carpentry. A graduate of Paul Breaux
High School in 1938, Floyd enrolled at Southern University, where he
continued to apply his skills as a carpenter to cover the cost of tuition.
As a freshman, he joined the Alpha Sigma chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi
fraternity which served to strengthen his already God-given attributes in
service and brotherhood to his community. His devotion to his fraternity
would later inspire him to reach the position of Grand Polemarch. Floyd
received his bachelor' degree in Industrial Arts from Southern University in
1942. He would later receive his Master's degree from the University of
Southwestern Louisiana in Administration and Supervision.

A veteran of World War II, Floyd defended his country honorably as a
sergeant in the army and received a bronze star for his service in the
Asiatic Pacific.

After the war, he returned home to Lafayette where he met his lovely wife,
Marjorie Howard. The happy couple was married in 1947 and had six beautiful
children. A devoted husband, he often joked about his job to drive "Miss
Daisy", a nickname that he affectionately called his wife.

Floyd began his professional career in 1946 in Lake Charles, La. as an
instructor who taught carpentry to veterans. He moved back to Lafayette in
1959 to teach Industrial Arts at Paul Breaux High School.

While there, "Brother Floyd" created a program to build houses for needy
families.

Floyd would later go on to become Assistant Principal and Principal at the
Lafayette Parish Vocational Center from 1970 to 1982. Floyd completed his
career as Project Superintendent in the development of American Plaza in
Lafayette and also served as Safety Engineer for the Department of Energy on
developments in Weeks Island, La.

Since 1972, Floyd and his wife owned and operated "Marjorie's Nursery", a
childcare center where he was referred to by all the children as "Mr.
Floyd".

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Zola Andrews; his brother Claude
Andrews; his mother, Rebecca Foote Andrews; his father, Davis Andrews; his
brother, Roy Andrews; and sister, Rosella Morrison.
