According to her obituary and the 1959 Springer history written by her granddaughter, Jessie Evelyn Springer, Mrs. Eliza A. Knight nee Robinson was the daughter of "Joseph" and "Jane" (White) Robinson. She married the Reverend John Barber, Jr., 14 Jan 1830, in Madison County, IL. After his death in 1838, the widow Barber nee Robinson married the Reverend Joel Knight 13 Jul 1858; the marriage was recorded in Macon County, IL. After the Reverend Knight died 2 February 1876 at Donnellson, IL, the widow Knight nee Robinson returned to Edwardsville and lived with her daughter, Margaret (Barber) Springer. (obituary: "Edwardsville Intelligencer," 11 March 1898)
Mrs. Knight died at the home of this daughter, 7 March 1898. This house, originally called “Oakland,” was built in 1854 by Judge William Brown. Interestingly, Judge Brown was a brother-in-law to Colonel Benjamin and Lucy Stephenson daughter, Elvira Amanda (Stephenson) Starr Maddox. After Judge Brown’s death in 1874, Mrs. Knight’s son-in--law and daughter, the Springers, purchased the house and property. Please see the image of Oakland circa 1873; the house is presently located at 104 Springer Avenue.
